Our Design Process

When you work with us or with one of our partners, you can rest assured that the playground design process is as easy as 1-2-3! It's our job to understand your needs, analyze options, and design the best playground for you.

Our Design Process is as Easy as 1-2-3

The adage “walk a mile in your shoes” is how great play environments are built. Your intimate knowledge of your facility, staff, local regulations, growth needs, budget, and especially your children is invaluable to the planning phase. We start by interviewing you to understand your knowledge and vision for your children, your facility, and the outdoor environment so we'll know how to best integrate the mission of your program.

Other details we’ll include:

  • Project scope and requirements (age range, play structure type, shade, amenities, surfacing, etc.)
  • Measure the size of your play space
  • Determine site accessibility for installation
  • Budget available and/or needed to meet your playground vision
  • Timeframe
  • Additional requirements (permits, etc.)

We create a site plan drawn to scale for every Grounds For Play proposal we prepare. This plan shows locations for all play equipment and any required use zones, surfacing material selections, and, if asked, suggested landscape and hardscape elements.

Safety is our top priority when it comes to playgrounds. We design our play spaces to meet or exceed the standards set forth by these organizations:

  • International Play Equipment Manufacturers Association
  • American Society for Testing and Materials
  • U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission
  • United States Access Board

We follow our own strict in-house standards and guidelines while also having staff that are Certified Playground Safety Inspectors who will review your site plan for safety and functionality. Our staff will ensure play equipment has the proper safety zones and more.

A detailed CAD drawing and itemized prices are provided for a complete scope of work. Your sales representative will provide a proposal that will include:

  • Site plan
  • Computer-aided design (CAD) drawing
  • Renderings, if requested
  • Final cost
  • Installation plan
  • Expected lead time

We're in the home stretch! All of our equipment is made to order. Once you’ve accepted the proposal, we’ll schedule the equipment to be manufactured in our state-of-the-art manufacturing facility, located right here in the United States.

While your equipment is being made, your sales representative will schedule the installation and construction of your new play area and any supporting activities to get your playground ready for the ribbon-cutting ceremony on time.
