Located in Athens, Georgia, Peach State Academy invested in a thoughtfully designed playground that supports active play, early learning, and age-appropriate development for infants through school-age children. The outdoor play environment was designed to serve children from 6 months to 12 years old, offering multiple activity zones that encourage exploration, imagination, and physical development in a safe, engaging setting.
The centerpiece of the playground is a large play structure designed for children ages 2 to 12 that is covered by an expansive shade structure. This shaded play area allows students to play comfortably in Georgia’s warm climate while providing a variety of climbing, sliding, and interactive elements that help build strength, coordination, and confidence while supporting inclusive play for a wide range of ages.
To expand climbing opportunities, the playground also features two freestanding climbers, the 4-Section Short Bubble Wall and the Moon Crater. These climbers encourage problem-solving, balance, and upper-body development while giving children different ways to challenge themselves and stay engaged throughout the school day.
Creative expression and sensory engagement are also part of the playground design. A shaded outdoor musical area includes interactive instruments such as the Glockenspiel, Bongos, and Flower instruments. These outdoor music elements invite children to explore rhythm and sound while encouraging cooperative play and sensory learning.
The playground also incorporates dramatic play features that inspire imagination and social interaction. A playhouse and two themed play stands, the Farmer’s Market Stand and the Gas Station Stand, provide opportunities for role-playing and storytelling. These elements connect with a trike track where children can ride and explore as they move between activity areas.
For the academy’s youngest learners, a separate play space for children ages 6 to 23 months provides a safer and age-appropriate place to explore. This early childhood play zone includes a Tot-Trek, an infant exploratorium that features a contained play spaces made from activity panels, along with the Toddler Sensory Tower. These elements support early mobility, tactile discovery, and cognitive development for infants and toddlers.
Throughout the playground, the academy selected a cheerful color palette of spring green, blue, and butterscotch. These colors create a bright and welcoming environment that reflects the joyful energy of early childhood learning.
By incorporating shaded play areas, sensory experiences, dramatic play, and age-specific equipment, the playground at Peach State Academy provides a well-rounded outdoor learning environment where children can climb, explore, imagine, and grow. The result is a playground that supports both physical activity and early childhood education while giving students in Athens a vibrant outdoor space designed for years of safe and meaningful play.
